What do I need to connect the web app?

Accepted Answer

Create or edit a Personal Access Token in WaniKani Settings. Keep all_data:read enabled, add assignments:start for lessons and reviews:create for reviews, then save.

Read-only access still works for planning.

Your key stays in this browser; your password is never needed.

How do I enable study with my existing key?

Accepted Answer

Open WaniKani Settings → Personal Access Tokens, edit the key connected to Wanascope, enable assignments:start and reviews:create, and save.

Return to your session and retry.

If you create a replacement key instead, disconnect the old key in Settings → Account and connect with the new one.

Disconnecting clears locally saved data, including unfinished study sessions, so update the existing key when possible.

Can I try Wanascope without connecting?

Yes. Demo mode uses sample data, so you can explore the dashboards and Reader before adding an API key.

Yes. Every Wanascope feature is free.

Your WaniKani plan still determines which WaniKani content is available.

Where do I do lessons and reviews on the web?

Accepted Answer

Open Study in Wanascope, or use the lesson and review buttons in Today, Plan, and Forecast.

Lessons start on WaniKani only after you pass the quiz. Reviews submit after you correctly answer every part, including your incorrect-answer counts.

Apprentice today shows upcoming subjects, but only those already due can be reviewed.

What device and WaniKani permissions does the iOS app need?

Wanascope for iOS is an iPhone app.

Its Personal Access Token needs these five permissions:
 all_data:read assignments:start reviews:create study_materials:create study_materials:update

Dashboard sync remains read-only; write permissions are used only when you explicitly start an assignment, submit a review, or create or update your own notes and meaning synonyms.

Where does the iOS app keep my token and study data?

Accepted Answer

Your Personal Access Token is stored in the iOS Keychain. Cached WaniKani data, pending study actions, and resumable study sessions stay in the app container, while Reader text is processed locally.

Authenticated requests go directly from your iPhone to https://api.wanikani.com/v2.

Review reminders are scheduled locally and are not sent to a Wanascope backend.

How do I sign out and delete local iOS data?

Accepted Answer

Open Settings and choose Sign Out.

This removes the Keychain token, account-specific cached data, the saved study session, pending local reminders, and the app badge.

You can also revoke the token in WaniKani settings to invalidate access.

How do I get private iOS support?

Accepted Answer

Version 1.1 includes moderated feedback posts, replies, and selected screenshots in Settings. New text and images require approval before publication. Use the content menu to report inappropriate material or block its author. There is no direct chat.

For private setup help, bug reports, accessibility requests, or removal requests, email support@wanascope.com. Include the Wanascope version, iOS version, device model, a short description, and the issue number if relevant.

Never email your WaniKani token, authorization header, or private learner information.

Version 1.0 support remains available by email.

How do iOS tips work?

Accepted Answer

One-time tips are optional Apple In-App Purchases processed through StoreKit and do not unlock features.

Wanascope does not receive or store payment-card details. For billing or refund help, use Apple's purchase support.
